I had the software update applied to my car last October (MY'17 V6S AWD).
Pops and bangs were significantly reduced at first, then slowly started coming back.
The volume and frequency of pops are lower than before the update though, so if this is something that you will bother you, I'd recommend avoiding the update if possible.
