So a couple of months ago my f-type suffered catastrophic engine failure. The clock was only a mile off of 33k at 32,999. Since then I have been trying to find a garage that can fix it. I have third party warranty but they will only cover £40 + vat on the labour. I don't mind making up the remainder of the cost, but I am really struggling to find a garage willing to do the work.
Does anyone know if I can get Jaguar to replace the engine due to low millage or recommend any garages that would be able to replace the engine. I am in Leicester but willing to shipped a reasonable distance.

MGA in Derby gets good reviews. Might be worth a call.

What happened though? Presume something has been diagnosed if your looking for a replacement engine.

Thank you I will try them next. Yeah so one of the rods I think the mechanic said has smashed out the bottom of the engine. The engine is destroyed. He told me to go through Jaguar as he believes it is a manufactoring default. But they want to strip the engine down and I don't want to be stuck with the labour bill if they don't accept liability.

Not aware of any manufacturing faults. We have had two other bottom end engine related complete failures which I recall were down to oil over filled. One was over filled by 2L by the owner.

That's a major failure and I wish you all the best in getting this resolved.

Think you’ll need to find a Jaguar engine rebuild specialist. This one may be too far away (near Heathrow) but you can get some idea of costs involved. Another alternative is a used unit from a donor vehicle but you just won’t know what you’re buying.

If you want to see one with similar damage and what's involved, here’s a guy finding the fault and then tackling a donor replacement.

Interesting videos. And what exactly makes your oil go jet black. A hard life and/or lack of maintenance?

Wishing OP the best of luck in getting this issue resolved. Please keep us posted.

Does anyone else here send an oil sample out for testing on a regular basis? I used to test it with my Audi every 2 years. Miller Oils offers a good deal and testing system. It's like a blood test that tells you how your engine is running and if there are any major concerns with wear, fuel or coolant dilution, soot, etc which you can then tackle before it gets worse.

Give E&E a call in Milton Keynes, they are Jaguar approved and very helpful.

Thank you for all the support guys. I don't think the oil was overfilled as I had it serviced only a few months before it blew and I am pretty sure I remember checking the oil level when I got it back just to make sure it was done. My previous quotes for new engine was about £24k fitted and £15k for a used engine. Fingers crossed I have a garage now, they have sent a quote to warranty company and just waiting for them to get back to us. I can't imagine it is going to be easy to get them to cover it due to the high cost. Luckily I paid the extra for cover limit to be set at the value of the car and not £7k. I will keep this updated. Just starting to worry about brakes now as the car has not moved very much in the last couple months.

Mine sat unused for three months when my neighbour was having building work done and I was isolating, and the car was fine after that, apart from needing the battery topped up. Worry not!
