Though luck... .. active dampers only on the diesels. Sot his can not be the solution.
They are putting my car back together again. They now isolated the noise as coming from a structural beam underneath the front window.
They are going to discuss with JLR what is next. Not a happy day..
idle vibration

@Soldes.. This defect is a known issue at idling.. .. they didn't think of it as my car doesn't at idling speed..
They discovered 'free play' in the bearing on the servo side of the wastegate control servo..

Thinking about a tiny piece of metal, vibrating.. ..transferring this small impuls through the inertia of the lump,
through dampers to the inside of the cabin space..
Seems unlikely on second thought..

I think so too.Dan_Veluwe wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 9:06 am Thinking about a tiny piece of metal, vibrating.. ..transferring this small impuls through the inertia of the lump,

I recall someone on the XE forums calling out Jag assist after what was described as a really bad "rattle" and the arm in the picture was loose.
No vibration though.
Thank you Dan for pointing that out. the list of things to check is getting longer. If it ever makes a marble in a tin can sound I'll be able to pin point it
If they would bump the idle speed for the period under normal operating temperature just by 100rpm it would be resolved. Don't know if they can do that, change the mapping...
So it's not your issue either and really something with the structural beam ??

I never came back on this, but it was actually the LH motor mount that was ripped apart. Had it replaced and all was fine, till this week a little over a year later the RH one gave in. Didn't know these cars have a reputation of eating engine mounts or perhaps it was just a bad batch.

Glad it's sorted.
They had issues with the Xe from around 2017 onwards after they were a couple of years old.
Nothing seen over the last couple of years though.
It looks like the rubber can degrade though as a recent issue had all the full vacuum tests and was ok.
But they eventually found that whilst the mount was taking the vacuum the rubber had hardened to such an extent it was pretty solid.
Replacements were a different design though so fingers crossed it won't happen again.
