has this gone on instead of the normal scuff plate or as well as?
have you not just made the lowest edge of the car more forward so more chance of being scuffed by speed bump/kurb etc

essentially just stuck on top of the plastic, and yes, a few millimetres now forward. Whether it serves any purpose is yet to be seen (I'm going to try and avoid any 'bumps'). I rather think Jaguar should have used a hard rubber instead of plastic for this item anyway in the first place.

The deflectors are designed to be somewhat sacrificial.

Also, pointing forward means they will make more sound as they are forced backwards by the speed bmp / object and temporarily buckle.

I assume that is to provide an audible warning so you know to go slower, or tack / crab next time you drive over the same object.
