Hello!
After lusting after an F-Type for about three years now, I'm getting awfully close to getting one. I've found one with a reasonable (but small) spec 2016 V6S that I'm rather tempted by, the only downside being the mileage (66k). It's not Jaguar Approved either.
Having lurked on these forums for a couple of years now, I've come across a few posts regarding higher mileage cars, most of which seem to indicate they're not too much of an issue. I'm aware of things like diff-oil changes, that I should check to see whether they've been done, but not sure if there are any particular things I should look out for? It drives and sounds fine (as far as I can tell, what with my incredibly limited experience).
I've got the VIN and reg, but no access to Topix to have a nosey myself - is it possible to register as a "lay person"?
It may well be that I'll soon pull the trigger, but I think a big part of me wants to know as much as I can about this car (or any future potentials) before doing so! Would it be rude if I asked a local JLR specialist (not a dealership) to look over it before I bought it?
Anyway, what was going to be a quick hello turned into quite a ramble, so I'll just say thank you for providing such a gold mine of information and experiences, and I'm happy to have finally made an account!
Finally ready to pull the trigger
FWIW - I registered with TOPIx previously for my XKR (and used it for build spec) but they must have changed access so build spec is no longer free. I found this out when i got my FType recently.
Jaguar customer service will help if you have the VIN.
Put a link to car here, im sure others with more knowledge of these cars will help you out on relative spec of car compared to others.

Thanks AJ. I ended up making an account on Topix and it was pretty useless in the end. Shame they've locked pretty much everything behind a paywall now.AJ13 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 3:07 am FWIW - I registered with TOPIx previously for my XKR (and used it for build spec) but they must have changed access so build spec is no longer free. Looks a decent spec to be fair.
Partial elec seats, but not a deal breaker.
With it being a light coloured interior a bit of bolster wear and tear and looks discoloured a bit on drivers side. Im sure the dealer could sort it.
Personally I'd be more concerned with "2 dealer stamps" on a 2015 car with 60k plus miles.
Ask the dealer for VIN - send Jag customer service a message asking for build spec.
Lovely colour but im biased as my wifes FPace is the same. Really nice colour when clean.

Nice car , new discs on it and tyres look good , as Aj has said service history is paramount when buying these cars , but in saying that changing the diff oil is easy if it has not been done , also so is changing engine oil and filter , i like the colour and the performance seats and price is good

Blimey, that was fast, thank you! Yeah, the service history is something I'm chasing them on - they haven't been forthcoming with it which is a little concerning. I'll keep pressing them on it and walk away if I can't see its full history.AJ13 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:48 pm Looks a decent spec to be fair.

Yep, the colour and that light interior are a really stunning combination to me! I'm rather envious of your wife's F-Pace in that colour!
Fantastic colour combo IMHO. F-Types with a good interior colour spec seem quite rare.
Does look like a decent spec. A pano roof is a must in an F-Type IMHO and I can't see it in the pics but the spec list says it has it. A few things that are only standard and not upgraded are the steering wheel, side sills and rear diffusor. There's no steering wheel heating either if that matters. The wheels seem to be repainted at some point because I think those wheels only came in silver. The spec list says it has the upgraded brakes but it's a bit hard to see in the pics (look at the size of the rear discs) if it's really the case.
Just so you're aware and fine with it, being a 16 it will probably suffer from the sticky button issue.
A 12 month warranty is good. Just check what it covers.

Thanks for checking it out, BeltUp. Yeah, in person it looks in great condition for its age, too - I noticed the condition of the discs, too - good eyes! Like I said in my post above, I'm chasing for service history, so fingers crossed.Beltupandholdon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:56 pm Nice car , new discs on it and tyres look good , as Aj has said service history is paramount when buying these cars , but in saying that changing the diff oil is easy if it has not been done , also so is changing engine oil and filter , i like the colour and the performance seats and price is good
Out of curiosity, and since you mentioned them, during its 5 short years on this earth, do the services mainly consist of fluid changes unless something more serious has occurred?
Thanks MajorTom. Yep, it's got the pano roof - it's pretty much the only absolute requirement we have. The sense of space it brings is superb. That's interesting about the wheels, I'll see what its build spec is when I give Jag Customer Services the VIN.MajorTom wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:16 pm Fantastic colour combo IMHO. I've heard about the sticky buttons, but thankfully the fix (or cure!) for that is straightforward. And yep, the warranty is key - being my first "proper" car (read: "special"), I'm wanting as much of a safety net as I can get with this purchase! All your comments so far have settled it somewhat, so thank you indeed.

One further question: We found the performance seats quite hard, and as we'll be using this car mainly to road trip around Europe, does anyone have any experience doing long stints (3 or 4+ hours) in these seats? We've test-driven this particular one, but can't tell how my back would be after being in those seats for longer than the 30mins we've had!
Yes services are mostly fluid changes apart from spark plugs , this car should have had them changed before now ... then they will need changed at 8years or 96000 service then the supercharged belt a year after , performance seats I've never had a problem but in saying that only been for shortish drives of an hour so far
