I'd hedge my bets on the Supercharger coupling.
Start it from cold with the bonnet up and take the plastic lid off the engine (just pull straight up).
Go to the front of the engine and it should be loudest at the top pulley, back by about 8 inches where the coupler resides.

Thanks, Tel.
I'll try that if my local dealer doesn't replicate it this morning - I'll also suggest the supercharger coupling to them.

Plymothian, any luck with this? Mines developed a very similar noise over winter, when cold and at idle!

I'm afraid not, and it's making the noise more frequently now it's cold and wet.ReturnoftheMatt wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 6:33 pm Plymothian, any luck with this? Mines developed a very similar noise over winter, when cold and at idle!
I recently had a service at Sytner Northampton instead of my nearest main dealer (Milton Keynes) and I mentioned it to them and played one of the videos on my phone. They said they'd like to investigate it, so I am emailing them the details and links to videos today.
Any chance you can share a video or audio of yours?
[quick edit] - I also wonder whether the noise is present when the car is warm and being driven (and not just at idle), but it is drowned out by tyre, engine and wind noise. I'm convinced I can still hear it, though I might be listening too hard!

The cars supported by main dealers who cant diagnose this and let it out is beyond me and the reason they do not get my custom! Shocking.
As already said, most likely the S/C coupling.

I believe your model is supercharged.
100 quid says it's the coupling spring against the main drive shaft.
Quite common, relatively inexpensive fix if you DIY. Solid couplers are available direct from Eaton US or eBay.
If you get a chance pop the bonnet first then take your phone to the front and middle of the engine.the coupler is about a foot back from the pulley at the top.
If you don't have a SC, then completely ignore the above

No news to report yet, but if/when I get this issue resolved, I will report back.

Seems to pop up quite often... i'm surprised there is no easy JLR diagnosis already! This guy's car seems to be making the same noise, identical to what i'm experiencing on an intermittent basis:

Hi ReturnoftheMatt!
I've been having this exact same issue on my V6. Did you ever get to the bottom of what was causing this? My local dealer apparently ruled out it being anything to do with the supercharger - they cleaned the supercharger belt and that seems to have got rid of the loud squeaking, but I've still noticed the loud rattles like having golf balls under the bonnet. Did you manage to make any progress on what was causing it?
Thanks
Robin
