Rusting Discs

Post by Parfect » Wed Apr 17, 2019 8:24 am

Does anyone else’s discs rust whilst washing their car? I find mine rusting before I even finish washing it. I’ve never had a car that this has happened on before.

That is what I do too 😊. Just seemed a bit strange that they rust so quickly.

I spray mine with bilt hamber "Atom Mac" read about it on their web site. You can also wipe on with a rag it does work....and does not effect brakes or pads...

Happens on my Range Rover as well. Must be a JLR thing. Atom mac is good, only use it if the car is being on Sorn. Oh that's about half a year

Not really anything but the fact they are made of cast steel.

I've seen it on all cars - even my Honda.
I don't think it's actual rust, as rust won't go away after driving. It could be quick oxidation of the brake pad compound.

Washed mine today at DIY car wash in Garforth. I used the hot soapy lance 1st & immediately noticed the bronzy look on the discs. Probably a result of water/ soapy water quenching the hot discs.

I've complained to JLR about this, their response was that all discs do it....which if you have more than an F type you will clearly see that they don't all rust as fast as an f types do.

I even had the service manager out showing him after they had washed it with plain water you could see it discolour in real time....he raised a Technical report with JLR ....to not surprising zero effect !
