Interestingly I got a quote for Jaguar insurance with my car and it was about double to three times what I could get on the market in Australia so went with someone else. After having the car about a week I rang the underwriter for the Jaguar insurance as I realised the insurance I had gone with didn't offer two year new for old replacement, so wondered what they might offer direct. Surprisingly (or maybe not) going direct and getting the exact extras that Jaguar insurance would have given me they quoted much closer to what I was paying so took it out. When I asked them about the previous quote that told me that is what they have to offer when going through the Jaguar dealer - don't know if the UK might be the same?

When asked, it was because they only use jaguar parts and jaguar dealers to repair, that's why its more expensive, :o , so if my new insurer cannot repair the car at their approved repairers then it will go to Jaguar anyway, but, if i opt to go the Jaguar route myself (instead of their approved) it will cost about £255 in excess charges to me, and as the bodyshell is Aluminium and its glued and riveted they may well send it direct themselves as they warrant the repair for the lifetime of the vehicle, as long as i remain the owner.

Very few Jaguar dealers have their own bodyshops anyway. It's such a specialised industry nowadays and being aluminium this will limit repair to the larger specialist outfits in reality.
