The pipes going into the box are where the valves are located for the active exhaust, should be one on each if it has it. Maybe the previous owner was doing something with them?

Taking into account all your observations I’d be inclined to walk away from it. There are lots of fine examples out there that have had lots of TLC, you just have to be patient and perhaps be prepared to travel which I appreciate isn’t so easy at the moment.

Mine was a 3 year old ex lease car with very low mileage and full main dealer service history. In my opinion lease cars are more inclined to be maintained regardless of cost as it’s part of the contract. This generally means the individual isn’t paying for service and repairs.

I can only speak from experience with the numerous lease cars I’ve had for daily use. I’m sure there are other views on this subject.

Hope this helps.

i have called Jaguar Swansea where the car has been serviced, it was a lease car, they told me its been serviced at the correct time and its been in for a update in 2016 and had a sensor replaced and at some point had a speaker repaired.
Alpha motors has since come back to me and are willing to refurb the offside front wheel and repaint the front calipers, he has also said now that when they serviced the car last week the technician noticed the exhaust note was changing so they had the exhaust taken off and new pins replaced in the exhaust to change the exhaust note which is why it had been welded up around the actuators, done by a professional company Dam Bar exhaust specialist in Orrel Wigan but why they mig welded them instead of tig i dont know!
so now i am very much undecided
what would you guys do?

356boy , nice colour, you need to read about the difference between the 340 and the 380 before you buy, the power is easy to chip and get over 400 out of a 340 after all both v6, 3lts.

the real difference comes in the suspension and handling which you cannot alter other than some lower springs, which won't match the suspension difference.

I’d be walking away, quickly, & not looking back. Leased car, sounding like it’s not been particularly looked after, ending up with a motor dealer with three months warranty. Dodgy painted calipers, welded exhaust etc. Too many negatives for me.

You’ve a healthy budget & you say this will be a weekend only keeper. Jaguar Used Approved or private sale, low mileage garage queen 👍

And as I previously mentioned the V6 340bhp and 380bhp produced virtually the same peak torque at 332lb/ft and 339lb/ft respectively. The power advantage between the two is only significant at the top of the rev range, so the need for re-mapping does depend on how and where your going to drive it..... and don’t forget the brakes, I’m pretty sure the 380bhp model has slightly larger discs and a limited slip diff as standard.
