Quick question about reversing cam guide lines

I'm killing time waiting for my delivery looking at the online instruction manual 
The reversing cam graphics have a dotted line on the far left and right which it says is the 'safe working width' of the car. Is that the absolute minimum space needed (inc mirrors) or the workable space to be able to get the door open enough to get out as well?
