Hello all.

Thought I'd introduce myself.

The name is Mark, long time TVR owner (3 cars over 32 years) looking to make a switch to a V6 convertible.

I don't think there is anything "modern" which quite captures the TVR spirit as the F Type. That means a manual is a must, which I know drastically reduces the choices I have in relation to colour and spec etc. Perhaps I may be swayed by an auto, I suppose a test drive would settle that argument.

Anyways, it's early days, I need to sell my Griffith 500 before I can move on (1994, 21k miles, 3 owners from new, no mods). I'll be sad to see it go but I need a change.

Looking forward to trawling these forums and understanding more about the car.

Cheers Mark.

Welcome Mark.
Certainly worth a test drive if the auto - both with paddle change and in Sport Dynamic auto - to convince yourself you need a manual.
I think they’ve gone through 3 iterations of clutch so important to see what work might have been carried out under warranty.
This is the only one on Pistonheads at present - easy to tune to 400+ bhp so a 340ps with a good spec such as Performance seats, heated front screen etc. shouldn’t be overlooked.

I did change from my griffith 500 after 14 years to an ftype r. Just two weeks in and it still feels like the right move. Good luck with your search

I came from 10 years of TVR ownership to a V8 F Type and haven’t regretted it for a minute, a manual would be nice, but up changes using the paddles are very satisfying when you’re going for it, makes a lovely bark

And if you're desperate to exercise your arm rather than your fingers, in S you can shift using the stick! ;)

Hi Mark, welcome aboard.

I'd definitely wouldn't dismiss the auto without trying it first. As a fan of manuals, this is the first auto I've owned and I'm a convert. It's quite an "intuitive" and interactive box, especially in Dynamic mode. It also apparently "learns" your driving style and adapts changes accordingly.

You'll learn a lot from reading this forum. Enjoy your search and drive a few to get a better feel.

Hi Mark quite a few X TVR owners here, I owned four of them over 25+ years, the F-Type is a fantastic car the only thing for me was getting use to the weight on twisty roads. The automatic gearbox is one of the best.

Hi Mark and welcome

I don't think you'll regret the move. I came from a much lighter noisier early 3.0s Z4 soft top, so the V6S has been a delight ever since for 5+ years now

Don't discount the auto. I've been against them all my life (reinforced one of my current Jeeps with 5.7 V8 and a 3 speed auto :) ) but this box is in a different league. Different modes allow you to go from granny driving to holding any gear and all changes with pretty quick paddle or stick. Back off, change the mode, close the exhaust and trundle through town :)

You'll soon start to pick up the specs. but worth noting the V6S comes with an LSD and uprated brakes.
