To add my data to the pile.

I'm 39 and took out insurance on 13 June when I purchased the F Type.

  • £414.40 for the year, one off payment with Privilege
  • Comprehensive
  • Protected 9+ years of NCD
  • 5,000 miles per year
  • No legal cover
  • No Hire car
  • No Breakdown
It was pretty much identical to the insurance cost of my family wagon - E Class Estate, but not really sure what that says :geek: .

I think you're confusing cost with value there!

I just got my renewal. Yikes.

Been with Admiral for over 20 years. Last year it was £850. Now they want a whisker under 1400. No changes at all from last year in terms of the policy.
GoCompare say the AA will do it for 820 so I think a weekend on the phone is in order.

So much for customer loyalty unless they can miraculously match it.

My plan is to get a cheaper daily driver later this year or early next (either an EV or a 1L like a puma or something). That will drop the jag mileage to 1500 a year (from 8000) by using it as a weekend car and hopefully that'll do the trick.

Don't drop the mileage too low or they'll think you're more of a risk bcause you don't "practice" much.

I'd still have the second car on the policy so my annual mileage will be about the same, just hoping the jag proportion of the premium will be a lot less.

My quote went from £546 last year to £712 this year - so I added my 70 year old sister who hasnt driven a car for 10 years and quote dropped to £536

Just goes to show car insurance is crazy!

Pleasantly surprised at my LV renewal price which, although a couple of hundred higher than last year (around half of that was due to a recent SP30), was considerably lower than all the other 'normal' companies I investigated.
Adding my partner reduces most quotes considerably.

Is getting a cheap daily driver going to leave you net better off than just paying a higher insurance premium in the jag ? (taking into account MOT, tax, insurance, depreciation on the cheap daily ?)

I have other circumstances meaning I'll need a car anyway to get a wheelchair in the back and my mum in the front. So might as well make it a cheap practical daily for that as well.
