Hi, First time posting here. Got a bit of a nightmare.
Had the cam chain snap at 52k miles on my 3.0 2018 AWD R-Dynamic V6 Coupe, ….
Just heard back from main dealer, long story short, has damaged internals and replacement engine needed … £17k …

Obviously a shock, anyone got any ideas?

I’m (sadly), thinking that at that age it’s not worth replacing. £25k for the same version used.

Any ideas on what to do guys, including on best way to get the most remaining value out of the car?
Obviously totally gutted.

Cheers in advance, sorry to ask obvious questions but a bit gutted at the moment.

Also, any recommendations on a decent specialist place to get the existing engine reconditioned?

Sad to hear. Any history on why the chain might have given up? They're usually pretty robust.

That's very unlucky, I never heard of a cam chain snapping before.
As with a cambelt, if it snaps it usually causes catastrophic damage to the pistons and heads so repair unlikely.
It would take it to an independant jag specialist and fit a 2nd hand engine that has similar or better milage.
Theres one on ebay for £6k thats only done 500miles apparently.

Strange indeed - and I can imagine how gutted you are. Call it thankfully better than an accident where someone may have been injured.

Whereabouts in the country are you? Could be worth speaking to Tom Lenthall re. having it trailered there.

Let us know how you get on and good luck in getting things sorted without too much more hassle and stress.

Very unlucky, assuming a fully serviced engine and being driven normally, i.e not in recent flood water..

As posted above I'd be looking to a second hand motor.
Sadly dealers due to time, lack of specific skill set to rebuild engines and occupancy of workshop space can only fit major components as replacements. They equally cannot touch non new components
I'd seek out a smaller garage that is prepared to do an engine out and swap and install a second hand motor.

Expect to be VOR for a good few weeks to source the engine, move the car and have the work done
