Hi all, happy to join the forum, hopefully picking up a red MY19 P300 R Dynamic at the end of the week. Like all before me I've been scouring the forums for info and tips.

I do have a few questions if anybody can help?

1. I've had a XF previously which suffered with swollen wheel nuts that seized, it was a 62 plate. Is this still a problem on Jaguars?
2. On previous vehicles I've been able to activate features which are there, but reasons of model differentiation aren't. Is there anything like this for F Types, such as activating auto dipping headlights etc and if so what software is it?
3. I assume android auto requires the phone plugging into the car, has anybody tried the wireless adaptors?
4. Do these vehicles have voice control or is that feature through the connected phone using AA or carplay?
5. Are the connected services worth it? I quite like the idea of the remote features, if enabled what can they do and which sim is recommended.
6 Anybody remapped the P300 or the gearbox? The ZF gearbox can be remapped to allow less restriction on torque through the rev range and sharper changes.

And finally, sorry about all the questions!

Regards

Rob

Welcome aboard.

5) I find the remote facilities useful for starting the car in the cold to get it nicely warmed up for me (can't do it from the fob like some manufacturers) and the journey logging is handy to have.
6) a few folk on the US forum have the ZF tune from VAP and have been universally delighted with it, they say it transforms the shift performance, though I'm happy with the stock performance. They don't really do the P300 over there, though!

I'm sure a few of our resident experts will be along to answer all your questions, and those in the future!

Thankfully JCT600 stood the cost of removal and replacement. I'll definitely be checking before I pick this car up.

Many thanks, I was offered the option for my previous car when I was having a map reinstated. It did sound interesting but I didn't go for it at the time.

Welcome! I think I recognise your handle from the world's best XF forum where I also used to spend a lot of time. :)

1. The nuts are still the same. Although their construction is a bit daft it's not really their fault if they swell or break. All cases I've read about of broken and swollen bolts over the years seem to be caused by over torquing them. I've had this kind of bolts since more than 10 years now on three different Jaguars and never had an issue with a single bolt. All tyre places I used applied the correct 125 nm torque and so did I when I changed wheels myself.

2. Some features can be enabled but there doesn't seem to be a lot. There's a company called LR Retrofits specialised in that.

3. Yes but wireless adapters can be used. There's a chap on Youtube calling himself MrGB who has created a few F-Type related videos and IIRC one of them was about adding a wireless adapter.

4. No F-Type has voice control. Only through your phone.

5. Yes it's quite useful. There should be a fair bit of info about that online. Confusingly there's also a separate subscription with Here for map updates and live traffic data which is rather rubbish and overpriced. I guess you wouldn't consider wasting money on map updates anyways and just use carplay/android auto instead.

Yes, I recognise Major Tom, nice to make your acquaintance again. Looks like one of the first job will be to re torque the wheel bolts then.
I've also been advised by my son to fit dynamic indicators, which to be fair he's done to his A3 and they do look good.
Folding wing mirrors would be nice. I assumed they would be standard, but sadly not.
Plenty of stuff to learn I guess.

I'm not sure dynamic rear indicators are an option or an aftermarket thing on the ftype. They came as an option from around 2021 but would need a whole new bumper to fit oem ones as they're a different shape.

Just a note about the auto headlights etc. From my experience of them they are crap, either they dim for signs and streetlamps or they stay on for any traffic other than ones coming straight at you. Mine regularly melt the retinas out of anyone on a roundabout that isn't facing me.

Dynamic wing mirror indicators are a brilliant little mod. Cheap, looks great and makes the indicators brighter and more visible. That's one of the first mods I did to my F-Type and I actually carried them over from my last XF.

Being able to keep some mods is a nice feature of moving from one modern Jaguar to another. :) Apart from the indicators I also carried over my solid aluminium paddles and some interior LED lights.

Rob, speaking of lights - take close look at the intensity of the DRLs in the headlights. As you may have seen in other threads it's a very common issue with MY18 cars that the DRL loses intensity on the (UK) passenger side and I've also seen cases of later cars with that issue.

Many thanks I'll do that. What interior lights have you replaced? Is there a way of activating or changing the ambient light to suit the car mode as you can in the newer XF?
