Hi all,

The check engine light came on as I was parking at work in the morning. Got home in the evening and a scan revealed that the sensor 3, bank 2 is playing up. I cleared the code and went for a drive of about 20 minutes on the motorway, parked and scanned again. The code was back.

No lights on the dash at the moment. The car drives and idles just fine. It has done just over 27,000 miles.

I wonder if anyone here can comment on the following:

- has JLR UK extended the warranty on the O2 sensors as it did for North America?
- would an MY18 be covered?
- what's the cost for replacing the sensor? (dealer and/or indie/specialist). Sensor 3 is the easiest as per some YouTube videos.

I wrote to my local JLR dealership and the dealer I bought it from asking for advice. I got a 12 months RAC Premium warranty which I hope would cover a failed O2 sensor.

Thanks.

Not as far as I am aware.

- would an MY18 be covered?
No.

Depends on your relationship with Jaguar dealer. Most will want £185 diagnostic fee and then around £300 for the work although I've seen prices varying from £230 to £600+

Contact your RAC warranty and see what they say.

Keep us posted on what you end up paying, would be interesting to know. I luckily only had one sensor go so far and that was replaced under warranty the other year.

This is the price we pay for those pops and bangs. In my book they were a bit fun 10 years ago but are now mostly annoying so I'm considering checking with a remapper if he can reduce or remove the pops and bangs.

The RAC Platinum warranty should take care of most of the cost. I could take the car to a local indie part of the RAC network which I am familiar with but I thought the Jag specialist should be a safer bet. Considering there are no symptoms I think it's just off the tolerance.

I will try to run a bottle of Cataclean or similar to see if it helps. The service is booked for the 12th. The quote I got was

£98 diagnostic
£250 O2 sensor (TBC, could be cheaper)
£200 labour

I reckon I'll end up paying about £70 as RAC won't cover the full hour rate.

Just an update, the sensor heater is faulty meaning the complete O2 sensor needs replacing. It does not affect the car especially now that the winter is over but I'll have it done.

I paid £48 to confirm the fault today.
Replacing the part number T2H48054 without warranty would cost me £95 labour and £160 for the sensor.

I'm going to file a claim with RAC on Monday and all going well, I should have it sorted within a couple of weeks at Parkside Garage (JLR specialist in Huddersfield).

By the way, the sensor is available to order and on a short lead time however I was told about very long part lead times still affecting lots of customers. They had a Range Rover on the car park that's been waiting for a drive shaft for 8 months...
